“Chris Cooper Scholarship Fund”

The “Chris Cooper Scholarship Fund” was established in the memory of my son, Chris, who was killed on September 25, 2003 in a car accident in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Chris was a 1999 graduate of Old Bridge High School, where he was a member of the baseball team for 4 years. In addition to playing for the high school team, Chris also played for 2 years with the Brooklyn Youth League in New York and had a scholarship to C.W. Post (Long Island University).  In addition to his love of baseball, Chris had a gift for computers in which he self taught himself and was working as a computer programmer at the time of his death.  But, it was his love of baseball that led to the scholarships being rewarded to members of the Varsity Baseball and Softball teams. With continued success of the Fund, additional scholarships will be awarded to other areas of education and sports.

The recipient is chosen from a committee of the coaching staff, athletic director, the scholarship fund committee and Nanette and Jim Reid. The following are the guidelines that are used to choose the winners:

1) Shows Leadership
2) Good Sportsmanship
3) Goes above and beyond their playing ability
4) Must be attending college
5) Shows a “Love for the Game”
Various events are held throughout the year to help raise money for these scholarships. It is the effort of family and friends who volunteer there time who are making our scholarship fund a success and keeping Chris’ memory alive.
